Supplying companies are optimistic about the Peruvian aquaculture market

Chile: after participating in “Exports Node of Aquaculture Services to Peru”, Fishvet Laboratories, Luxmeter Energy and VeHiCe Laboratories showed Salmonexpert their progress in the neighbouring country.

After the closure of last’s week project “Exports Node of Aquaculture Services to Peru”, previously launched by Corfo Los Lagos and ProChile, a few of the companies that participated during the first period of this project showed Salmonexpert their insights about future opportunities in the Peruvian market, which is still in the first stages of development.

The plans

This is how Javier Moya, commercial and operations manager at Fishvet Laboratories pointed out that the aquaculture market in Peru is growing, therefore: “it’s in our best interest to support them, since the experience of the Chilean professionals in terms of health is quite high”.

In regards to the tour carried out last year by the Node to Peru, Moya said that “to be able to travel not only as a private company, but also with the support of Corfo and ProChile, allowing you to organise time and resources. Having the government’s support means you will be welcomed by the Peruvian authorities. In ours and other companies’ case, this was an advantage to get closer.”

According to the manager, and conversations held during the tour to Peru: “we have been working with our colleagues, basically trying to find the best technical and commercial modelling. They are just starting, therefore, the costs issue is important, since their production is at a smaller scale. Today, we’ve been working on making some strategic alliances with a few entities that are developing the same health program for fish farming.”

For Veronica Muñoz, external consultant for the Develop and Research department at Luxmeter Energy, a company that focuses on LED photoperiod services for the industry in Peru, said: “this is a market of great interest to us, and we want to be part of as a company, providing our services and helping them develop their aquaculture industry in any way.

The professional also pointed out that after the technical tour carried out by the Node during last year, they held meetings with a few Peruvian companies: “in order to understand how we could be of service in regards to the photoperiod subject. The first stage of the Node tour is coming to an end, so we have to apply for a second one and we will participate in everything that has to do with company associations. It was a very interesting experience and it was also very useful for all kinds of firms, because we could complement each other and managed to show a complete range of services for aquaculture.”

To act as a team

On her part, Gabriela Vera, administrative and financial manager of VeHiCe Laboratories (one of the 12 companies that participated at the Node), said that is important that the local companies have the opportunity to travel and acknowledge the reality of other aquaculture industries: “and what better than having the support of the government through entities like Corfo and Sercotec, since they managed everything, carried out all the market research and training on Foreign Commerce.”

Vera pointed out that the associations made with this project, indicate that: “the companies involved had a chance to get to know each other better and act as a team, which is a positive thing, because the more companies support each other the more goals you can achieve, such as: exchange customers and create a service packages.”

Lastly, the manager pointed out the following: “I believe that the providing companies here are in top conditions to export their services abroad, due to the great progress that the Chilean aquaculture industry has in comparison to the Peruvian industry. Therefore, we must go, offer our services, and train their personnel. A second stage of introduction is taking place soon, in order to complete the business exchange. All of this takes time. We already have the experience exporting our services and it could take up to a year to hear from your potential customers. It does not happen in an immediate future.”
